Who Are You.

We all need to and must know our true identity to be able to accomplish the things God has for us to do. Most believer have taken their identity form what society have put upon us, we are a father of mother, a boss or employee, a student or a teacher, a child or adult. There is nothing wrong with these identities, but most of them will transform and or shift. what we really need the our true identity in Christ that identity will never change.

What does the bible say about your identity.

17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 18All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 19that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. 20Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

If we have accepted Jesus, we are a new creation, we have been made new it does not matter what we have done or what has been done to us. We have all gone though thing some more tragic then others but those thing and issue are not our identity any more. re are NEW CREATION.

We are called ambassadors, so I’m an ambassador what do I do…

An ambassador is the Present’s highest-ranking representative to a specific nation or international organization abroad. All ambassadors officially represent the U.S. government on behalf of the president in treaty negotiations, immigration discussions, foreign aid projects and humanitarian aid programs. An ambassador represent our nation in the absences of our Presidents.

As an ambassador for Christ, we are to represent Him in His absents. In the book of Luke Jesus told everyone in the synagogue what His duties were when he quoted from the book of Isaiah “The Spirit of the Lord  is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

The above passage is just one that shows your personal identity and there are more identity statement through-out the Word of God. You also have a corporate identity.

9…you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

1 Peter 2:9-10

We are one! together we a chosen race Galatians 3:27-28 “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

Knowing these scriptures don’t make them your identity you have to apply them and begin walking in them to make them your true identity. Peter had his identity wrapped up in the thing he did for and with Jesus and not in Jesus. Peter was there from the beginning and saw everything Jesus did. Peter served and followed Jesus everywhere he could.

  • Mark 5 – Peter was with Jesus as he raised a dead child
  • Matt 14 – Peter walks on the water
  • Mark 8 – Peter has the revelations of Jesus being the Christ and just a little later was told by Jesus to “get behind me Satan”
  • Mark 9 – Peter was there when Jesus transfigured and Peter want to build dwelling
  • John 13:67 So Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you want to go away as well?” Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.”
  • John 13:6 – Peter at the Passover Feast did not what Jesus to was his feet
  • John 13:36 – Jesus told Peter that he would deny him
  • John 18:10 – Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear.
  • John 18:17 – Peter denies Jesus – The servant girl at the door said to Peter, “You also are not one of this man’s disciples, are you?” He said, “I am not.”
  • John 18:25 – Peter denies Jesus two more times
  • John 20 – Peter was the first disciple to here the tomb was empty

In chapter John 21 you see Peter going back to his old identity, a fisherman, and other disciples following. sometime when you have gone through a hart time it is easy to fall back in to those old identities the have placed on you by the world.

4Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. 5Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” 6He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. 7That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea. 8The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off. 9When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread. 10Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” 11So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. 12Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. 13Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. 14This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

John 21:4-14 ESV

by the goodness of God Jesus was right there to reset his identity.

15When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 16He said to him a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” 17He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. 18Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.” 19(This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, “Follow me.”

John 21:15-19 ESV

Jesus gave Peter purpose and vision by reminding Peter to feed and tend the people. Then Jesus told him him one more thing “Follow Me”. This remind Peter what Jesus said to him the first time the met, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” That Peter identity was not a fisherman but and ambassador to proclaim good news, and liberty to the captives, sight to the blind, liberty those who are oppressed, and the year of the Lord’s favor.

Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. love thy neighbor as thyself.
