Laying it all Down

Luke 7:36-50 (cev) tells us the story of a sinful woman who was forgiven, not by her action, but by the love she had.

Jesus was at Simon’s house for a meal when this woman came up behind Jesus and began to weep and wash Jesus’ feet with her tears and drying them with her hair. She brought perfumed oil in a vase made of alabaster. v.37 and poured the content out on His feet.

Scholars believe this sinful woman was a prostitute. She had heard about this man who forgives and heals people. I can imagine how much she wanted to see Him. Hearing that He was going to be at Simon’s house, she devised a plan. She would bring him a gift, present it to him and maybe he would accept her. The perfumed oil; if she could get close enough, she would pour a small amount upon his feet. That’s the gift! As she stood at his feet, every emotion that had been bottled up within her was released. She began to weep. She decided to give it all.

This was not just any gift, it was her everything, her most valuable possession, her entire savings, and her entire livelihood. Without this perfume, she may not even be able to get her next customer. She was giving up everything, her reputation, her security, and her profession.

When coming to Jesus you do not have to bring him a gift or try to make yourself better, JUST COME! We just have to spend time with Him. He is not looking for perfection. He is looking for someone just like you. As you spend time with him you may begin and most likely want to give up everything.
